28              Songs and Ballads
27     His poor old aged father
Now stricken down with grief, The joys of earthly pleasure, They would bring him no relief.
28     Untold gold and silver,
Possessing wealth in store — Sunny sky and music sweet Will not the dead restore.
29     The robin and the sparrow,
The sunshine and the rain, The cuckoo and the swallow In the spring will come again.
30     The blackbird and the throstle
From a far land will soar; But one in death departed Will see again no more.
31      Now, kind friends and kindred
Of him who's dead and'gone To a better land in Heaven Far away beyond the sun.
32     His toils and trials now over,
You scarce will see again Till you cross death's dark valley, The bright, celestial shore.
